How To Build A Game-Winning Wall In Fortnite And Also An Emotional Wall That Prevents You Connecting With Your Parents
There’s a reason everybody can’t stop playing Fortnite – this addictive F2P game offers a fantastic battle royale experience, along with deep and complex base-building gameplay. Winning your first game of Fortnite, much like being lifted up onto your father’s shoulders, is a rewarding experience that everyone should strive for. But how do you get there? Where did it all go wrong? Read on for the answers.
The basics
Stay hidden and keep your head down. Whether you’re navigating the colourful environments of Fortnite or navigating an awkward silence at the dinner table, it’s important to keep the same rules in mind – use cover as often as possible. Never go out in the open if you can help it, and certainly don’t volunteer any information. The last thing you want to do is give them anything to shoot at, or criticise.
Think carefully about where you want to get off the bus. Ideally, you want to be aiming for somewhere close enough to a populated area that you won’t have any difficulty finding supplies, but far enough away that you won’t be immediately targeted by others. Additionally, feel free to resent your mother for refusing to drive you to school personally, and for forcing you to scavenge in the wilderness for food – she says she has a lot going on at work, but she’s been saying that for months, and she never really seems to be sorry.
Always close the door behind you. A closed door is one of the strongest weapons in your arsenal, buying you a moment to reload, or think – or both. If you come across a closed door, be wary when going through it in case someone is waiting on the other side to ambush you with a remote explosive, a shotgun, or a drunken slur.
Building a fort
Leave nothing behind. The early bird not only gets the worm, but also gets out of the house early enough to avoid a difficult conversation. If you don’t find the high-level weapons quickly then some over-achiever like your brother certainly will, and there’s no way you’re sitting through another one of those motivational speeches.
Build light and be prepared to move. Wood is a good construction material for most structures in Fortnite, because it enables you to quickly get something up and running, and can be abandoned easily if you get in trouble. Don’t invest too much – it will just get betrayed and undermined anyway. Always remember that the only person you can trust is yourself.
The best defence is a good offence. If you build it, they will come – because there’s nothing they like better than belittling your creations. The key to winning is not to sit passively inside your fort but to lash out first and hurt them before they can hurt you.
The end game
Don’t get trapped. As the circle closes in, you might feel that the best strategy is to simply bunker down and wait it out. Wrong answer! It can be all too easy to let your well-planned walls become a prison of your own making, and if you’re not careful you’ll find that you’re just like them – trapped in an obsolete marriage that they built 30 years ago, and too afraid to change. You are better than that.
Never show weakness. GG in the global chat? What are you, your sister? You can’t be seen to be saying things like that if you want to make it up the stairs and into your room without another lecture. One moment of weakness is the difference between making it into the top 3, or scrubbing out like the loser they always said you were.
Don’t copy others. The last thing you want to do is copy what another player, or sibling or relative is doing. Staying away from others gives you a stronger chance of being the last person standing, and you don’t want to be a goddamn doctor anyway! You’re your own person, and it’s time they understood that!
