Overwatch: Blizzard Apologises For Releasing Game With Placeholder ‘Soldier 76’ Character
An oversight in the Quality Assurance department has been blamed for an embarrassing slip-up which saw Blizzard’s new shooter Overwatch release to the public with a placeholder character still present.
Players began to notice the errors when looking into the character of ‘Soldier 76’, realising that he was bizarrely out of place in a game filled with heroes like a gorilla in a robot suit, a man with a loudspeaker strapped to his groin, and Australians.
“He’s just a… a man with a gun,” explained confused gamer Melissa Hampton. “And I mean he’s literally called ‘Soldier 76’. Did they go through 75 iterations on this guy to get to this point? That’s depressing.”
Blizzard has apologised profusely for the error and promises to patch the placeholder soldier character out in the next update, replacing him with someone “totally sick”.
“I’m thinking he will have a mysterious past,” commented Blizzard’s Chris Metzen. “Something that nobody knows about. Top secret stuff. Who is he under the mask? You don’t know. And he’s got these powers… they’re unexplained.”
“He’s also a total badass. This guy doesn’t take anybody’s shit.”
“This is going to be great.”
